Nicolas Galeazzi * is amongst the ones I asked what I should do / whom I should meet in Brussels.
Today he brought three boxes containing a xerox machine in single parts. He also gave me a list of names. I shall ask them to come and help me assemble the machine. By doing so we get to know each other and we’re performing.

His task (english paraphrase below):

Du wirst also das kopieren kuratieren.

Die sezierte Maschine soll wieder eine Funktion kriegen – eine Performance.
Die Zeitschrift dient als Manual dafür.

Die neue Funktion der Maschine soll nach wie vor dem kopieren gewidmet sein, allerdings ist die Exaktheit der erstellten Kopie nicht von primärem Interesse. Kopieren ist hier eher als übertragen, übersetzen, missverstehen, weiter verbreiten, oder in Beziehung treten zu verstehen.

Die eingeladenen Gäste sollen die technischen Objekte der Maschine als Metaphern oder als Beispiele ihrer eigenen Arbeit interpretieren. Das heisst zunächst, dass sie die Funktionsweise (Methode) ihrer Arbeit auf ein oder mehrere Objekte übertragen (ihre Arbeitsstrukturen an die Maschinenteile ‚anheften‘). Wenn die Maschinenteile definiert sind, sollen sie in einen Zusammenhang mit den bereits bestehenden Verbindungsteilen gebracht werden.
Daraus soll zumindest ein Funktionsmodell einer Kunst-Maschine entstehen, das mit einem kurzen magischen Pusten zum Performen gebrachte werden könnte.

The dissected machine shall get a function – a performance.
The Journal serves as the manual.

The new function of the machine shall be dedicated to copying, but the accurateness of the copy is not of primary interest. To copy is rather understood as transfer, translate, misunderstand, diffuse or to relate sth./so.

The guests shall take the technical objects of the machine as metaphors and examples of their own work. Initially they have to transmit their own working method on one or more objects (they ‚attach‘ their working structure to the machine pieces). When the pieces are defined they shall be put in relation with the already connected parts. Out of this a functional model of an art-machine shall form that could be brought to perform with a short magical puff.
